During Eid al-Adha, we should take a break, think, and reconnect with our faith. It brings to mind the strong story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was devoted, made sacrifices, and put all his faith in Allah.

As we get ready for this special day, it’s a good idea to include the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in our celebrations.

Want to make your Eid even better and full of good things? This is a simple and heartfelt list of Sunnah things you can do this Eid al-Adha.

A New Beginning for Eid in the Spirit

Get up early and pray so you can enjoy the peace of the morning. Start your day with the Fajr and Tahajjud prayers, and then thank Allah for letting you see another Eid. There is a lot of peace in the early hours, which makes them a good time to pray and get ready for a meaningful day.

After you pray, the Sunnah says to do ghusl. Taking a bath not only makes you feel clean, but it also helps you get ready for the joy and blessings of Eid. You can feel fresh, focused, and ready to enjoy the day ahead if you have a clear heart and a calm mind.

Dress Nicely and Smell Good During Eid

On Eid, you should be happy and thankful. One nice thing to do is wear nice clothes. The Prophet (peace be upon him) told us to dress nicely, even if our clothes aren’t new. What matters most is that they are clean, modest, and worn with respect.

How you dress shows how happy you are, whether you wear your favourite kurta, a pretty abaya, or just your best clothes. Men should wear perfume just like the Prophet (peace be upon him) did. It’s an easy but important way to remember the day and thank Allah for everything he has done for you.

Don’t Eat Until You Have Prayed

One important Sunnah for Eid al-Adha is to wait until after the Eid prayer to eat. It may seem small, but it helps us remember what the day is really about. Eid al-Fitr begins with something sweet, but Eid al-Adha begins with prayer and thought. Waiting helps us remember that the Qurbani is the most important thing.

Before you eat with your family, it’s a simple way to remember what sacrifice means. It helps us understand what Eid means and makes the holiday even more special.

Say the Takbeer

Reciting the Takbeer is one of the most beautiful things you can do on Eid al-Adha:

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallah,
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa Lillahil-hamd.

This strong statement honours Allah and reminds us of how wonderful and kind He is. The Sunnah says to start the Takbeer the night before Eid and keep going until the 13th of Dhul Hijjah.

Say it out loud with confidence, whether you’re driving to work, walking to the mosque, or getting ready to pray at home. If you need to, you can also say it softly in your heart. Many families play the Takbeer softly so that even the youngest kids can join in and feel the spirit of Eid.

Speak up with pride. Let Eid fill your home, your heart, and your community with happiness.

If You Can, Walk to the Mosque

Walking to the Eid prayer is a Sunnah that brings people together and makes them feel good. If the mosque is nearby and it’s safe, take your loved ones for a walk and enjoy the peace and quiet along the way.

It’s a chance to get to know your neighbours, think about things, and feel like you’re part of the larger Muslim community. These small things make Eid even better.

When you go back, try a different way. It is another beautiful Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

“On the occasion of the ‘Eid, the Prophet (ﷺ) would proceed to the prayer place taking one route and returning from another.” – (Sahi Bukhari)

Eid al adha

Say the Eid Prayer and Listen to the Khutbah Together

A common Sunnah is to join other people at your local mosque or prayer ground for the Eid prayer. This brings the community together to have a good time. It’s a short and simple prayer, but it has a lot of good things in it. When you’re with other people, Eid comes to life.

After the prayer, stay there to really listen to the khutbah. This sermon has a lot of heartfelt reminders about faith, coming together, sacrifice, and being thankful. The khutbah can really make you feel better and help you remember what Eid is all about. The khutbah makes you feel good and gets you ready for the rest of Eid.

Do Your Qurbani with a Sincere Heart

Now is the time to get ready for or do your Qurbani if you want to do it after the Eid prayer. You can trust that United Muslims will handle your donation and follow the rules of Islam. People who really need it will get your Qurbani, whether it goes to the UK, Palestine, Kenya, or anywhere else.

Eid al-Adha honours the Sunnah of Qurbani by showing how faithful and obedient Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was to Allah. You should make your sacrifice with a real desire to help families and communities in need and to connect you to a powerful story of faith and submission. The Quran says in a beautiful way:

Neither their meat nor blood reaches Allah. Rather, it is your piety that reaches Him.” – Surah Al-Hajj (22:37)

Don’t forget that you should share the meat from your Qurbani. Some of it goes to your family, some to friends and family, and some to people who are less fortunate. Being kind, giving, and caring is what Eid is really all about.

Give Food to Other People and Make Them Happy

Eid is a time when everyone should get together. A simple “Eid Mubarak” or a small gift can make someone’s day, whether they are a neighbour, a friend, or someone who is spending the day alone.

Everyone should come together on Eid. A small gift or the words “Eid Mubarak” can make someone’s day, whether they are a neighbour, a friend, or someone who is spending the day alone.

Sharing food is one of the most beautiful Sunnah things to do on Eid al-Adha. Inviting family, friends, neighbours, or even someone who is less fortunate to join you makes them happy and helps you get to know them better. Everyone can enjoy Eid.

“And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive…” – Surah Al-Insan (76:8)

You also make the blessing stronger by giving away your Qurbani meat. Think about how happy a child or an older person would be to eat a hot meal. It will be worth its weight in gold.

Send Eid Gifts and Well Wishes

People were told by the Prophet (peace be upon him) to be nice with their words and gifts. It’s a Sunnah to say “Eid Mubarak” and give each other small gifts. This makes the people in the community feel good and loved.

A heartfelt note, a box of dates, or a small gift for kids can show them how much you care and what Eid means.

Bringing hope through small acts of kindness—a meal, a helping hand, or a gift can light up a child’s day.

What Eid Means in Real Life

Eid al-Adha is more than just getting new clothes or a nice meal. This is a time to reconnect with your faith, remember the spirit of sacrifice, and follow the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) beautiful Sunnah.

Get up early, dress nicely, say the Takbeer with all your heart, pray for Eid, give your Qurbani with all your heart, share food with others, say hello, and make people happy with kind words and small gifts.

These little things mean a lot. They help us get closer to Allah, remind us of what’s important, and make Eid even more special.

Eid Mubarak from all of us at United Muslims! May your day be full of blessings, happiness, and barakah!
